if you have social anxiety and have tried all SSRI,SNRI,MAOI and TCA but dont wanna try benzos which antipsychotic will make you calmer?
I have tried seroquel but it didn't work and I have tried Zyprexa which did work... but its expensive since im buying online.. is there any other antipsychotics perhaps that work for calming you down? I wanna try these: clozapine, risperidone Chlorprothixen,Zuclopenthixol and Amisulpride

I cant answer your specific question because the only experience I have with APs are the week and a half now that Ive been on Abilify, so its too early to report on my total response (no help so far). I have severe social anxiety/phobia plus atypical depression and find most calming meds or supplements or even alcohol dont touch my social anxiety. They just make me sleepier and slowed cognitively which can actually exacerbate my social anxiety. So I have little faith in tranquilizer type meds. YMMV of course.
Can I pick your brain though? How did you respond to the MAOI you took, which one was it and what dose were you on and for how long? Can I ask what your SA symptoms are like?

stelazine, and orap and thorazine and clozapine are known to be very calming, alot of the 1st generation antipychosis medications were calming, there also is haldol which they usainlly mix with lorazepam to sedate a over active or violent patient. Haldol is very sedating.
But if your looking mainly for calming that would be stelazine, and clozapine and haldol. There's so many but most of them were the old generation ones

aripiprazole is somewhat less toxic than many others. low dose amisulpride might be helpful (?), since it can boost mood a bit...but i think that effect diminishes, over time.
low dose risperidone is not terrible, but prolactin elevation can be an issue. wasn't a fan of low dose olanzapine myself, but some people swear by it.
amoxapine is a tca that does double duty as a tranquilizer. at sufficient doses, it -might- act as an 'atypical' antipsychotic, with pronounced effects on mood and anxiety, as one would expect from a drug marketed for depression.
a fairly standard mix is a sedative+antipsychotic. back in the 60s, when combo pills were 'in,' they made some with fixed amounts of barbiturates+antipsychotic, meprobamate+antipsychotic, etc. anyway..
point there is that a gaba-acting sedative (benzodiazepine, lyrica, gabapentin all come to mind) plus an antipsychotic provide 2 forms of sedation. the sedative helps soothe akathisia and such from the antipsychotic, while also allowing for a lower dose. the antipsychotic, meanwhile, does its job and that way a lower dose of the sedative can be used. something like that, anyway.
hope this helps. :-)
