The FDA just fast-tracked "AXS-05": AXS-05 consists of dextromethorphan, a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, and bupropion, a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor that serves to increase the bioavailability of dextromethorphan.

I guess I was ahead of the curve on this one in being an abuser of cough syrup (just the pure dextromethorphan cough kind) in the late '00s. It definitely helped w/ depression and seemed to give me a nice sense of detachment in a way. Too much would make you trip of course but I found once I started taking lamictal (lamotrigine) that blunted most of the hallucinogenic effects and I could tolerate pretty high dosages w/ just a nice calm/AD effect.
Anyway I figured there'd be an anti-depressant w/ dextromethorphan coming since Nudexda (which is essentially dextromethorphan w/ the price inflated 200x) had done very well marketed for Alzheimers patients. I'm sure it'll be effective but probably costly which is sad cause the materials are dirt cheap (Re: robitussin is what $5 at walmart? and welbutrin is a cheap generic now).

I hear you. I found that dextromethorphan was helpful, in a pinch. However, it would be nice to get it in pill form (to avoid all the additive crap in the cough syrup - not to mention the bad taste).
I wonder how these meds would synergize. The bupropion, of course, is not just increasing the blood level of DXM. It is active.
