Search didn't yield anything but this is an herb I've had my eye on recently. Just ordered an extract that I'm going to start tomorrow. I hope it'll assist w. Weight loss but I think it may also help w cognition and potentially mood.
A tea I'd been drinking had it as a 2nd ingredient and I noticed my mood was improved after drinking. Figured it was worth a try based on the info on examine (although sadly all of the research so far is w rats):

How are you doing I've been wanting to get in touch with you? Still on Nardil? Any word of Marplan coming back?

Hey man - I am still on Nardil at 75mg. I finally found a way to get the weight to drop. I know one of your main concerns is to avoid cognitive issues though so I don't think my cocktail (at least at the moment) would be something tolerable. I'm willing to go heavy with this at the moment to bring my weight down though in the hopes that Marplan comes back on the market soon (more on that in a sec). What I'm taking now:Nardil 75mg - Gavis/Lupin Generic - (working well enough for depression / very well for social anxiety)
Lamical 200 - Taro Generic - (Was on Teva for years until they stopped making it - took months to find another generic that worked sufficiently but Taro seem to be ok - I guess it's still helping)
Metformin 2000 - Sun Extended RLS - (Was on this as my primary defense against Nardil weight gain for a full year and went from 216 to 236lbs. I probalby would have gained much more had I not been taking Metformin though. I also truly believe it's good for me anyway and new studies have shown it prevents risk of psychotic issues.
Seroquel 25mg - Lupin Generic - Just for sleep - been knocking me out for 10+ years, never needed more, never had a problem with it.
A month ago I'd had it when I was closing in on 240lbs and called my doc. I told him I had some Topamax for a couple years back that had worked fairly well and was hoping he'd ok me trying it again. He said it was ok and called in a new script as well. I've been on that a bit over a month now:
Topamax - 50, 100, 200, 150(prob back to 100) - Tried generic Zydus(No good), Cipla (Liked it but not sure about wt loss), Glenmark (similar), finally Costco had Sun which I tried last on my 4th week so could have been timing but weight started coming down so I'm on Sun generic at 150mg now. After a month weight is down from 236 to 228ish. So I'm happy I'm heading the other way now. My memory is shot but at 100mg it's not bad. I just pushed the dose to 200 quickly to try to see some result....I was desperate to see some weight loss.....Mainly trying to buy time until Marplan is back.
So yea Marplan. I've talked to the rep a few times (she's fantastic). I think they're working on getting a new manufacturer approved but that requires the FDA to do a ton of additional reviews. Based on a photo I saw on Drugs.com (and a review that some lady posted there in December) I think Roche might be the company and they may be having difficulty with that (long delay). The good news is Marplan is now marketed by a company in Denmark and the US company (Val.dus) is trying to get permission to import it from them for patients in the meantime.
I'd recommend calling - there's really no harm in that and they'll take your name and let you know right when it's in. I've called/emailed every 3 or 4 months so I'm sure once it's available I'll be one of the first they reach out to......For me it works a million times better than Nardil. It makes me feel more "myself" in a way...but.
Nardil is somewhat of a disappointment but it's too late to try to find some alternative and I'm not in a bad place or anything.....I would just love to see the topamax continue to keep me from having an appetite and dropping weight....
I'm sorry you're having some difficulties. I'm not sure I can be of much more help though....Sorry for any typos/dropped words - I'll blame it on my laggy phone and/or dopamax :)

> Lamical 200 - Taro Generic - (Was on Teva for years until they stopped making it - took months to find another generic that worked sufficiently but Taro seem to be ok - I guess it's still helping)THIS MIGHT HELP YOU...As I came down on the Nardil I realized a lot of the effects I was having reminded me of Lamictal side effects...memory, cognition, headaches, muscle tightness... I researched Deplin again as I had bought some recently. A lot of people that had these problems saw them go away by taking 15mgs Deplin.
FURTHER research indicated that other anticonvulsants AND metformin all reduce folate levels. That might explain why my symptoms got worse (strangely) once I started taking metformin. Also, Drinking and smoking drastically reduce them. For me, all the MAOIs, Nardil especially, ramped up these compulsive behaviors. I'm on my second day of Deplin and hope it makes a big difference.
> Seroquel 25mg - Lupin Generic - Just for sleep - been knocking me out for 10+ years, never needed more, never had a problem with it.Personally for me strong anticholingergics create a sense of stupor or delirium the next day. This is what knocks you out with the seroquel...the AP effects don't kick in at this dose.

>So the cognitive problems from the topomax is worth the weight benefits? Did you see any improvement in feeling detached or anxiety? Trileptal was helpful in reducing the unsettled, unwelcomed feeling of being out in the world but I was useless cognitively without gobs of stimulants.

>I'm on the fence about going back on Marplan...I found it somewhat less detaching and I was less compulsive than Nardil.
In dropping down on Nardil I found some interesting effects:
-Way less comulsive
-sex drive returning
-I "feel" less fat lol.
-The paranoid, unsettled feeling, neurotically doubting and internal narations of my actions have dissipated. I am less fixated on the interpersonal feuds (both real and self-created) surrounding me.I am unsure if my brain is just now more "busy" without the hyperfocus created from NE/DA properties of the MOAIs and these anxieties are burried; OR if all these monoamines flair up some latent bipolar/psychotic stuff in my genes (bipolar dad, schizo grandmother).
my big decision is do I go back up on Nardil and use lyrica, tianeptine, etc. to offset the apathy and fear? Do I try to stay at 15-10 mgs nardil so the drugs all boost one another with lower side effects, or continue my wean off.
Today at 25 mgs tianeptine sulfate I feel pretty good. Don't have weird fear around roommate, not fracture confused depressed.

Sorry for a short reply but I only have a little time so a couple things that stood out:
Never taken tianeptine but it's always interested me - wish I could but I'd never order it from abroad/etc.
I don't mind being obsessive sometimes. I have a very unusual job/passion where I don't mind getting a little hypomanic fixated on projects so long as I'm productive. Given being forced to have a more normal 9-5 or be amongst society I might not be quiet as tolerant of the way the medication makes me.....but for my merry-go-round week I'm ok w/ what I do and what I produce....so that's kinda why I hedge on giving advice acting like works for me will work for you or anyone else. I'm quirky and a lot of times ok w/ that. It's just me and my GF. All good :)
Deplin was found recently to totally block the effects of lamictal (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26687300):
===
"Jan 2016: NTERPRETATION:
Addition of lamotrigine to quetiapine treatment improved outcomes. Folic acid seems to nullify the effect of lamotrigine. CEQUEL should encourage clinicians and patients to consider lamotrigine for bipolar depression, but also to be aware that concurrent folic acid might reduce its effectiveness."
===Odd right? But I dunno. I took Deplin in 2009/2010 when it first came out. I would have been on Lamictal at the time also. I don't remember it helping much at all and I was off it quickly. For some reason I tend to have bad reactions to vitamins and supplements. When they say, Oh if you take vitamin D3 you'll cure depression and Nardil depletes B6, and Metformin B12.....and Magnesium is good for Depression....and fish oil. Any of that will just make me depressed w/in a few days.....I don't know what it is....I'd rather have just try eat more across the board than over think hitting up amazon and walmart for vitamins that just generally kill my mood.
And yea I'll take the cognitive hit since the weight is a number. If I can push that back down below where I was a year ago (which may not be all that hard - who knows w/ Met+Topamax - I'm praying) then I'd have options to let up on the topa. From what I've read 50mg should be enough to have some effect on weight w/o really doing too much on to memory/cognition. I'm just pushing it heavy cause I've pissed off about this creeping weight gain for months and month....seemingly w/o any options....now I finally think I might be able so...I'm ready roll w/ it for a bit.....maybe I'll adjust too....we'll see...
This is the end of the thread.
