Do the sedating effects of Remeron/Mirtazapine occur immediately upon initiating, or do they increase over time?
And - do they decrease over time?

Immediately within minutes or hours. Over weeks and months your body will adjust to it and the sedation will become a lot less. I was on Remeron for a year. Toward the end of that year there wasn't much sedation at all. I found that the smaller doses were more sedating - for example, 7.5mg was more sedating than 15mg. I used to sometimes do just tiny chunks of a remeron pill - maybe 1mg to 3mg range - and that was great as a sleep aid. Still at that low dose the morning hangover was pretty strong. But that too diminishes with time.
