Low Dose Naltrexone + Nardil for Weight/Etc?

Posted by PeterMartin on August 22, 2018, at 14:01:47

How well does Naltrexone work for weight loss? Would it be a decent drug to augment w/ Nardil to potentially aid in losing weight?

Could it potentially help w/ depression or motivation?

Thanks for any insight about Naltrexone.

in the US, there's that combo pill...wellbutrin+naltrexone...to assist in weight loss. I don't know how well it works.

at commonly used doses, I seem to recall reading that naltrexone can induce dysphoria, maybe straight up depression (?). Not an expert, clearly.

the low dose naltrexone people, who have their stuff compounded...say it can be stimulating...as in, insomnia-inducing stimulating, at times. most of what little I've read about it is all about the health maladies its supposed to be beneficial for, not so much mood issues.

can you take stimulants with nardil? i've read stuff, from way back when, on stimulants+MAOI drugs, but it seems to have mostly been an amphetamine+Parnate, for whatever reason(s). Dr.Ivan Goldberg, while he was still alive, had a website...I remember him writing about using a high dose of Dexedrine with Parnate, and then suppressing tics and such with Orap. I mean...OK, it was the 60s and 70s, I guess they did stuff like that back then, but...whoa.

wish I could be of more help to you. maybe the wellbutrin combo pill is an option? can you take that with nardil, or is it a no-go?

LDN can help with motivation and socialization. A lot, possibly. It takes a while to kick in - I didn't feel any good from it until about 4 weeks. Up until then it felt worse actually. I was on it for a few months.
I think you could experience weight loss early in treatment but that it would not last. That's because the nausea side effect of naltrexone goes away after some time, a few weeks.
A long time ago there were some of us here at babble who tried 25mg-50mg Naltrexone added to our antidepressants because it was supposedly a cure-all kind of thing. It never was that good but it did help a few people somewhat. But the thing is, all of us had to start with literally crumbs because it was so nauseating. We had to work our way up. But when your body gets used to that, the nausea won't be there anymore.

If it helps with socialisation and motivation, why come off it?

does anyone make their own LDN from standard doses? I was prescribed it for compulsiveness from MAOIs and the add on stims I need to take for energy and motivation, but it kind of made me feel like crap...more drugged.

I still need help with compulsive behavior, cognitive functioning, and detachment on Nardil, which I am close to ditching.
