Just learned that TEVA has discontinued their generic lamotrigine - have taken it successfully for 10+ years for bipolar.
What other brands of generic Lamictal have people done well on?
Thank you!

I am in the exact same boat but I think there may have been confusion about Teva discontinuing it right now.
The FDA page here says the chewables are being discontinued and the 100s are in shortage:
There is no mention of the 200s. I called Walgreens yesterday and was able to get my normal dose of 200 (usually 2x100) in the blue 200mg tab w doctor approval.
Where did you hear of the discontinuation?
Are you trying to fill 100s also?
Btw j posted a similar thread just afew posts up but let's continue here! :)
Good luck to us both if they read are dropping it ;-( it could be a real problem for me.

I spoke with Teva (N America 888-838-2872) directly, after hearing of this - I didn't believe it either. Walgreens still has some in stock - will vary store to store. But Teva confirmed that they have discontinued manufacture of all but extended release, and have no plans to manufacture tablets again. Tablets (200mg) for me for over 10 years - I'm very nervous about switching brands, and really don't want to use extended release. Thank you for your reply - I look forward to sharing information!

-Oh wow :(
Are you still taking Teva for now or are you already trialing another manufacturer? The Walgreens here gave me Alembic which I took for a week or two. Unfortunately I took it at the same time as I added a medicine (Zonegran) that I was pretty certain was going to cause side effects. I had a bad couple weeks but my feeling was the Alembic was at least "ok". I guess I should try it again for a few days and see.
Have you considered using the extended? I actually did a couple years ago because I thought the combo of Lamotrigine and provigil was causing constipation (leading to bad left abdnominal pain). The extended did seem to fix that but I did the brand jump around then too and some really messed with me....One Watson (I think) made me extremely spacy. I do have notes so I should check to see which check I stayed with longest.
Interestingly enough I never knew Teva made extended nor have I tried it. I might not be able to get it covered now though and I just checked the price. Even with GoodRX (big discount usually) it's $150ish... :(
Well please comment if you try any good or bad. I guess I'll give Alembic another trial since that's what I have. I am due for a refill though so I could call around and prob get any variety.
I'm sure many epeliptics are dealing with this also. Maybe there is a discussion on another forum too. Medschat, reddit, I dunno. Just hope there is a good solution.
Thanks for your comments as well. Not many responded to my previous two. Someone said Zydus was ok but I've had issues w other Zydus meds..eh

There's a good thread w/ other people also looking for a good brand to switch to from Teva on Medschat:

I'm giving Alembic another try. Started last night. I'm fine this morning :)

Hey there - just wondering how you're doing with the Alembic? About to have to get a refill, and trying to decide which brand to go with - not feeling optimistic about finding another month of Teva!

Jeni,
I've bouncing around w/ a few brands and have sorta settled on Taro. I'm not sure it's working great. Hard to say since I take other medicines. It's not making me worse as far as I can tell but.....
Have you found a good alternative?
This is the end of the thread.
