Just an update for the heck of it

Posted by beckett2 on June 20, 2018, at 17:51:41

I'm switching nuvigil for daytrana (sublingual Ritalin). Nuvigil has been good, although it can put my teeth on edge. I've used daytrana before with success, but it's a hassle to put on and wait a bit. When it's hot I can sweat it off. But it helps my add (or whatever that prefrontal lobe shortage is).

Oral ritalin doesn't really work as well, nor do other stimulants, and they effect my mood stability. Daytrana is crazy expensive, so I'll see what my insurance has to say.

hi. i do hope this helps. i also hope the insurance company will say "awww, shucks...just this once, OK..." or something equally awesome. :-)

ever tried focalin? they make an er or xr or sr or...yeah, you get the idea...now, and I think its generic. I don't know that itd make a difference, but I imagine your insurance company would be much happier with you.

thanks for the update, btw. I hope things continue to improve in your corner of the world. :-)

Hi CE, how have you been? Pretty much, I've tried various stimulants, and they all effect my mood adversely. The transdermal is best. In general, they work really well for me. So fingers crossed, Monday morning today, and I'm calling, so thanks for the best wishes!

Btw, my head feels clearer without nuvigil. I hadn't realized. It's been at least a month.

How have your adventures in pharmaceuticals been?

CE, insurance approved the prescription without my calling or any hassle. Should be arriving today.

Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it.

how exciting! I'm happy for you.

sorry to delay in responding...things have been a bit hectic in my part of the world (not overwhelming, just...a bit much...).

these days, I don't get to play with pharmaceuticals, LOL. Abilify is the main player, with Lamictal there to pick up the slack (I guess?). The vitamin thing (Orthomolecular) is ongoing, but I've trimmed the line up a good bit, without losing anything.

Its a funny thing, "severe mental illness." Because I have the labels and the disability, I'm not really a member of this community (probably better off here than anywhere else). Because I have a "good family" solidly behind me, I get a bit more leeway than many (most?) "mental patients" 'round here. And...

because I've now "recovered," both from the madness and the "treatment" and...life, lol...

well, I "rub people the wrong way," etc. So, there's the whole social component to "severe mental illness." My family is supportive and doing quite well. I'm trying to move forward, as best I can.

"Recovery." Its...the new buzz word in Mental Health, Inc. Not that its wrong or even inaccurate, its just...missing the point. I think of my "recovery" more as an ongoing story of redemption and growth.

OK. :-) Hope things go OK for you from here on out.

I agree. When I realized recovery is ongoing-- as in lifetime, I felt more focused. (Of course, there was a prolonged grief over my lost health.) For some time I thought recovery meant 'cured', and this idea caused me harm and psychic pain. There is also the buzz around 'acceptance', and much like addicts, when I acknowledged my condition, I felt more at peace. There's this book, "How to Be Sick" that I found very helpful. For a long I felt ashamed to be ill, and I spent many, many hours ruminating, as if tracing the course of being sick to some original mistake, I would find my way back to health.

I'm really glad you've stabilized :-)
