long time ago i read that mixing 5-htp with prozac is dangerous because of serotonin syndrome, i've been on it for about 13 years, and after a while i've gone into slumps, somedays it will work, and be noticeable, ill be safe of depression, then other days it feels like its bearly working, but if it was removed deep depression would set in
what happens is the brain, or mind, the psysiology will adapt, thats why AD's have the run out period and people switch to another, i've just stayed with it, but i noticed with 5htp at 100mg, it brought me out of this depression i was in, even at 80mg of Prozac, the brain just adapts and levelizes over time.....took 2 50mg of htp, and i noticed i was back at better, and the depression left, i've also taken SAM-e which also works but i have to say adding a low dose to treatment-resisant depression is not bad, im not advising to take, because people are diffrent, and yes if you take too much htp with an SSRI, yes it can cause serotonin syndrome, be very aware of that
i just wanted to log it, and put on a documented post
that's all ....

Managing illness with these substances may or may not be dangerous, depending on the person and the doses, but it is not the same thing as restoring wellness.
I think at some point it makes sense to ask why brain chemicals are messed up, contaminated, crowded out, or in short supply.
The answer is - in my experience and observation - usually in the inflammation and pathogenic microbial spectrums. I often mention Lyme but honestly there are dozens of pathogenic stealth chronic infections that we do not suspect and we misdiagnose or don't diagnose at all. It is not important to identify them. It is important to engage in anti-inflammation strategies from multiple angles, and anti-microbial strategies from multiple angles. Either with meds or herbs or both.
And then the brain cleans up.
And then we can truly meet our highest potential in terms of psychiatric treatment.
The guy doing prozac+5htp+antiinflammation+antimicrobial is probably in way better condition 3 years later than the guy who does just prozac+5htp. Imo

if i had inflammation medcine and microbial ... i would be taking it, just as you said, but i have to resort to others such as a SAM-e or L-Tyrosine, i don't see a doctor that is gonna throw me on all that, they really don't work with me - so i just play a joke and say i'm doing great, but i've resorted to other treatments, there's that russian med phenibut that help anxiety, it doesn't work like the benzos, no....had almost 0 abuse potential but i've noticed it sutle with reducing anxiety, a nervous wreck that has depression.....wish some other doctor would know about my case, my doctor - they see higher social status people, im just some runt that comes in every 6 months
anyways, but ill keep that in mind, maybe somehow i can find out more about that, but for now.....this is just how it is
