Trazadone is used quite frequently for insomnia. Mirtazapine and amitriptyline are other options.

Trazodone can work well, especially if you're depressed. I don't think it would be great for sleep in mania, or mixed states, but YMMV.

I think 50mg is typical, but I could be off, I haven't taken it in a while.

i've been trazadone, it's wellknown and prescibed in psych hospitals and rehabs as the first choice medication, almost 0 addiction potential, it just makes you just sleepy and groggy....i was on 150mg in 2005, it just yea...makes you sleepy like an anti-histamine effect, nothing like benzos ... it blocks serotonin retake, but also slows down the release of it, so their would stable amounts of serotonin, but anti-depressant wise, using it alone for depression does not work as well, they have the extended release of it, which would work all day, but trazadone main thing: sedation

almost all doctors i've had use it as first choice for sleep aid

I take trazadone occasionally when I can't sleep. My doc said can take up to 200mg safely, which is what I take when I use it. But many people take only 50mg. Danger of higher dose apparently is grogginess in the morning, but I've never had that problem.

for me it's a matter of what else I am taking. When I took with celexa or effexor (plus lamictal) I found it would make me feel weird all night but keep me up.

now that I'm on Parnate I definitely can sleep but somehow it's making the daytime sedation worse when I take my ADs.

Trazodone woked well for my schizo-affective type depressive "disorder". Depression was lifted. I was back in the gym. However it stopped working so i am now titrating off of it. I have been on 75mg. Now i am at 55. Soon going 50.

I take it in the morning because in the evening it makes falling asleep really weird. Dont know why. I just noticed it. I had very disorganized thoughts and stuff like that. When i am awake, it does not do this so i take it in the morning.

I've read about trazodone withdrawl symptoms and I'm wondering if that's common?

I've been taking trazodone 50mgs for sleep and it works great but I wake feeling down/unmotivated during the day. It also interracts with my daytime meds so I've had to move my dosing all over the day.

Trying Doxepin just to see if it is "cleaner," but now I'm concerned there will be a withdrawl and I'll have to try and discern it from doxepin effectiveness, etc.

taking <10mgs doxepin for sleep on Parnate 20-30mgs BTW. Few other things work for sleep.
