I would like to hear comments from Schizophenia patients that had success or not with ECT electric shock treatments.

hi. my diagnosis is Bipolar I, but I was given shock during a bout of heavy, untreated psychosis. I've been given a diagnosis of Schizophrenia by previous doctors, so I guess my "real" diagnosis is in the eye of the beholder.

ECT was horrible for me. Its been almost 9 years, and I've just now largely recovered. A lot of my life is permanently and forever wiped away. I still require fairly standard medications (an antipsychotic, 2 mood stabilizers, wellbutrin), and I think my depression, when it hits, is worse than it was before the shock.

I think the ects made it worse. The ECTs only helped with depression.

The only thing ECT does for schizophrenia is, make you stupified. So you are more easily managed and behaved. But for the patient it really makes you debilitated and stupid. People would poke and fun at me when I got out of the hosptial. And my only reaction was to just fall over and not respond. It probably was not just a reaction, my brain was mush and I didn't think. Couldn't think.. Also shortly after I got out I was assulted by 4 men at a bar. For no aparent reason. Probably just picking on me.

I wish I never had them.

20 years later I don't remember a lot of what happened in my life before the ECTs. You forget things like street names, how to talk and think. Its like coming out of a coma.

Have you tried CBD on him? With the other meds ofcorse.

we are in the same boat. I too have trouble controlling my paranoid thoughts and it feels like the APs are pooping out. However i would never do ECT.

Nor surgery.

What is going on right now that makes you consider ECT?
