New published summer 2016 double blind study showed that all doses of Topamax (topiramte) 50, 100, and 200mg were shown effective in preventing olanzapine-related obesity in schizophrenic and/or bipolar patients.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27370059I've just started taking Topamax again for the second time (first was way back in 2005 when I took of for maybe 2months). I'm up to 75mg now and doing fine on it as an add on to my normal cocktail. Down a few pounds w. Some minor memory issues. I'm all for dealing with minor sides though for a while if I can shed some of the weight I out on over the years.
I was happy to find this recent study validating it can effecting in offsetting at weight gain caused by atypicals.....
I know people have had bad experiences but try to keep replies positive or related to wt gain or loss if possible....thanks!

Scott, would 50mg have any of the nasty side effects that people can get?

I would have to say no, especially if one begins at 25 mg/day for the first week. My doctor brings people up to therapeutic targets very gradually so as not to trigger cognitive side-effects. I managed to work up to 200 mg/day without a single episode of the "Dopamax" phenomenon.
As always, there are no guarantees.

So i guess you could say that it is not likely to cause bad effects?
This is the end of the thread.
