curious about AE's

Do anti epileptics work on anxiety as well as stabilize mood? I hope that's not too silly of a question.

I recently began trileptal and I am sooo much calmer. Now that could be a mood effect, and my bipolar does often express as anxiety and agitation, so that might be it there.

But, does it have uses treating anxiety apart from bipolar?

Yes, in sweden you can get carbamazepine as an sedative and anxiolytic.
Lamotrigine and trileptal to.

So the thing you feel is not a placebo effect!

Good for you that it is working, i hope it keeps doing what it suppose to do :-)

Kind regards

They certainly can treat anxiety.

There are studies where AEs are effective for treatment resistant anxiety. Valproate is one with a bit of research, but I assume others work too to varying extents.

Lyrica is a huge benefit when benzo's can't be used, it has postive effects on mood and low abuse potential, it's an enhanced version of nuerontin which both are anticonvultants

Lamictal can treat anxiety....i use to take 400mg lamotragine in the morning, it made me calm but sometimes a boring calm

Valporate defiantly is good for anxiety and aggression

I was on Valproate many years ago and very briefly when first diagnosed with cyclothymia, but I only remember refusing to take it :) Silly girl.

Lyrica is incredibly helpful but is not always practical because, well, it can dope me up. Not good for driving...or thinking :) But yeah, smashes GAD.

Despite taking lamictal I'm experiencing some kind of break through anxiety, and I suppose, a little summer solstice activation..

Thanks for the confirmation!

Have you tried levetiracetam?

It's used here to.

Yeah lyrica kills gad, i feel you.

But abuse potential, yes.
For addicts anyway.

For the record, I've discontinued trileptal. I feel depressed and slowed down. I did feel better for a brief window.

At reaching 450 mg, I would feel very confused after any amount of pregabalin, and my balance was affected. But when I didn't take pregabalin, as I found out, I was sick within about 36 hrs. This last bit is a real bummer because I realize how dependent I am.

To date, lamotrigine is the only mood stabilizer that did not make me feel like a turd.
