I'm off all AD's first time in 20 years. Just lamictal. NOT Cutting it. The second I fall asleep I jump awake shaking and sure that I am dying. Grinding my teeth, chewing my tongue, and I've stopped going to school and working out.
Therapist and I are trying to do trauma work but it falls flat when I'm medicated. However there's no indication that talk therapy will even work. Not sure I'm willing to throw everything away for years of therapy that may or may not work.
I'm considering adding Wellbutrin...any trauma people having success with it? I would take more lamictal but it affects my cognition and sleep.

Wellbutrin is good with activation, and low energy, it could maybe help but wellbutrin is known to cause anxiety, and if you have anxiety it could increase it, it's a mild stimulant in a way.....but not actually acting like stimulant with increasing heart rate.........i would start on a low dose 150mg XL and see what happens, it helps people get going in the morning, kinda like coffee, but it increases dopamine but increase more norepinephrine, which could cause anxiety
not sure about your history, but sometimes they use benzos for trama to reduce the intensity, like memories.....but some doctor won't use them
lyrica could defiently be a good choice, it's calming and improves mood somwhat and has antianixety properties

You wrote,[...Therapist and I are trying...falls flat...no indication that talk therapy will even work...].
I could lead you to a new road that could enable you to overcome addiction and depression. This is prohibited by Mr. Hsiung for me to post that here. It would come from a Jewish perspective as revealed to me that is prohibited by him.
This would involve being indwelled with a new heart and a new spirit as the Spirit of Truth would reveal the lies to you and unshackle you from the chains that are causing anxiety and depression and addiction to be delivered out of that darkness into a marvelous light of peace a nd joy.
I am prevented from posting that here by Mr. Hsiung, but you could have your therapist join this forum and start a new thread and I could bring that out in our dialog.
The new heart and the new spirit has healing. The healing is a spiritual healing that enables the mind to overcome the lies that have caused addiction, depression and what you call anxiety. This new mind and heart and spirit can take you back to the green fields that you used to know. Gone will be the dark clouds and you will see the flowers kissed by the Sun. These rays are healing rays from the Spirit of Truth hovering over you now awaiting to come into you by the rays of the Sun of healing.
Your therapist could quit his/her practice after our discussion that could be like the Hsiung-Pilder discussion on the admin board here. For that therapist could have the light shine upon him/her also and have his/her eyes opened to what has been hidden.
If you do not believe that one could have a new mind and a new spirit that could heal the broken hearted and free the captives and turn ashes into beauty, then reject this opportunity now.
But if you do believe that a new heart and a new spirit could heal and displace depression and addiction to have this Sun shine upon you with healing, then accept this opportunity now by asking your therapist to join here and have dialog with me.

I have the same concerns as does RJLockhart37 regarding Wellbutrin. It can produce or make worse anxiety and anger. In a recent study, Wellbutrin failed to improve PTSD.

At what dosage have you developed cognitive impairments? How long did you give these impairments to disappear at this dosage?
As Lamdage mentioned, prazosin has become popular in treating PTSD nightmares, and is perhaps also effective in treating "developmental PTSD" or "complex trauma disorder". My history includes chronic childhood trauma that most likely triggered bipolar disorder/depression. I respond well to prazosin 30 mg/day. The main problem with prazosin is that doctors rarely use dosages that are high enough, nor do they split up the dosage to 2x - 3x a day. One thing that has been confirmed is that lower dosages of prazosin can treat nightmares effectively. For this, a single low dose (3-6 mg) given at bedtime can work. However, if depression and anxiety are problems during the day, I recommend the higher dosages. Some doctors go up to 40 mg/day. It should be noted that one would begin treatment by taking a single night dose of 1.0 mg. This is to prevent an initial sudden drop in blood pressure that can cause dizziness and fainting (syncope). By morning, this initial startup side effect disappears. You can then begin titrating the dosage normally.

I like Zyprexa as it has a calming effect and is great for sleep. I fall asleep soon after taking it, I don't wake during the night, and I get up early feeling rested. Its murder on the waste line though.

After posting this question I got to thinking, treating "trauma" is a vague statement. Right now I am most interested in treating depressive symptoms such as unrelenting suicidal ideation, sadness, and complete lack of drive.
I feel like therapy isn't doing anything more than getting me riled up and sending me out into the world triggered and hopeless. Today I bit the bullet and took 100 mg Wellbutrin SR.
I'm aware that it might turn on me a couple days but I needed something. there was some feeling jumpy and physical anxiety but I didn't feel cowed around everyone, and I made an appointment with my trainer. I also researched some stuff for grad school and GRE prep, which has been sinking off my radar.
I took a little klonopin to help with the raciness and ended up with a headache. Unsure if there is a correlation. I wonder what role the lamictal is playing too. I feel tired and undriven now at 7:30 but not all obsessed with killing myself.
Anyway I will take it again tomorrow. Until I get a doctor again who will actually see me I have latuda or rexulti in the wings. It's just good to feel alive for a little bit and I'm not expecting either to return any sense of drive.
