I have taken Abilify (aripiprazole) at 20 mg/day for a few years, and then 10 mg/day, which I am currently taking. I never became impulsive or compulsive. However, Abilify is somewhat like Mirapex (pramepexole) and Requip (ropinerole). The latter two drugs are known to produce compulsive gambling as a side effect. They are full agonists at dopamine receptors, while Abilify is only a partial agonist. Perhaps there are other mechanisms involved, I don't know.

I'm "glad" someone mentioned it because when i started abilify (5mg) the staff who was working at my rehab diagnosed me with bipolar, this was after a started taking abilify, then when i stopped it the "removed" bipolar and said it was due to the drug.
Partially this happened because of the incompetence of the psychiatrist who treated me, and partially because i got very compulsive and hypersexual on abilify.

This was 6 years ago and i've never had an hypomanic episode after that and is currently at a psychologist, and has been for 3 years straight, and she has many time ruled out the possibility for me being bipolar.

I'm not saying this to scare people of because many friends has been very helped by abilify, but i got one tricky side effect of it as mentioned above.

And i want to say that one year later i tried abilify again at doses 20-30 mg and got the same side effect, very compulsive and sexual.

I will point out that i don't want to make people scared or be some anti-medication guy on this forum.
I sincerely love this forum and it has helped me alot.

But i like when i get to read about different experiences, it really helps me to get a broader picture of how psychotropic drugs never is static in its effects.
