Life, Lamictal, Stress, (Triggers) Shout to SLSplz

Posted by jay_theoriginal1 on April 11, 2016, at 20:24:13

Hey folks:

Been having a really rough ride between meds and a very unstable financial and job situation. They all fit together, of course, but the one that has the biggest influence is the Nature one, the meds and mental health. I THINK I have found some stability with: a combo of Prozac 80mg Cymbalta 150mg Topomax 200mg at bedtime, Clonazepam 1mg 4x daily (I don't use this much....don't usually feel need to....knock on wood) Risperdal 6mg at bedtime (only thing that will make me sleep) and now recently added, Lamictal, 12.5mg 2x a day. I tried starting on 25, and flipped right out.

So, my question is, when should I up the Lamictal? 1 week....2 weeks? At this low dose I feel quite good, like a little bit of kick but not too much. I am super-sensitive to stimulating meds, and even though it is a little, Lamictal can make me feel very, very uncomfortable.

Anyone (SLS?) takers??? Thanks in advance...

Jay

usally they go up 50mg every week, to whatever optimal dose your dosing for. I went to 400 i was jumped from 300 to 400

lamotragine is good in it's own way, but i've had experiences where it made things feel boring, yet it does have antidepressant effects......

some people it's hard to even notice the effects

In what way did you "flip out"?

Are you an elephant? You are taking enough drugs at high enough dosages to knock one out! I won't try to evaluate your treatment regime at this point, but it is very aggressive.

What is your diagnoses?

Lamotrigine (Lamictal) dosing should be titrated according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This will help prevent a rash-reaction or Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), which is a relatively rare occurrence.

For Bipolar Disorder:

The following titration schedule is valid for patients who are NOT taking carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, or valproate. With these drugs, adjustments in the dosage of lamotrigine is required. Oxcarbazepine and Topiramate are okay without making adjustments.

25 mg/day x 2 weeks
50 mg/day x 2 weeks
100 mg/day x 1 week
200 mg/day...
300 mg/day if necessary

"Are you an elephant?" Sorry that made me roll on the floor laughing...not to make light :)

I found with lamictal, with every dose increase I would have a great anti-anxiety/motivation bump, but it would fade after a week or so. If you chase that you'll find yourself up to 400 mgs walking into walls. Again this drug is very person-specific and IMHO synergistic with other meds.

Good luck
