Hi All.
I have spent the last week on a dosage-finding mission to establish the minimum effective dosage of prazosin. I have arrived at 15 mg/day. I believe that this is the dosage that will afford me the best chance of getting well.
My current treatment regime:
Parnate 80 mg/day
Desipramine 300 mg/day
Lamictal 300 mg/day
Lithium 300 mg/day
Abililfy 10 mg/day
Prazosin 15 mg/day

You are supposed to start prazosin treatment by taking a single 1 mg dose at bedtime so that you don't suffer extreme dizziness while you are awake. By the time you wake up, the body has already begun to adjust to it. You can then follow up with 1 mg in the morning and 1 mg at bedtime. You might then begin taking 1 mg three times a day for a few days. Prazosin should be dosed 2 or 3 times a day. It is likely that if you titrate gradually, you will avoid the more extreme reactions you describe. Besides a reduction in sex drive, prazosin is an extremely clean drug for me. Like many other drugs, there may be some startup side effects that eventually disappear. My blood pressure is 120/70.

At what dose did the sexual SE's kick in? Do you not have them from the other ADs/AAP's you take?

In the past, the other drugs I am taking increased my sex-drive rather than lowering it. Prazosin reduced my drive starting at low dosages. Reduced sex-drive is a well-known and common side effect of prazosin.
I wish I could offer you an indication as to what type of depression prazosin is most suited to treat. My personal history was one of childhood physical abuse (non sexual), and neglect. This was what my doctor took into consideration when choosing prazosin.
