After a promising few weeks on Provigil, I switched to Nuvigil. Well, now I feel depressed and having trouble getting out of bed. Plus very fuzzy headed. This negative effect has increased over the past few weeks.
This was not what I was expecting, and frankly, I'm discouraged.
My thought is returning to Provigil and tinkering a bit to see if I can get it to work. Has anyone has found one version to work more than the other?
I'm not sure if I can make sense, except to think that the silent isomer has an function. If anyone has any theories, I'm interested in them.
Thanks.

I'm assuming stimulants such as Ritalin or Dexedrine are not options for you? If so, may I ask why?

i read on google that provigil is more likely to keep you awake, nuvigil (armodafinil) is the cleaner version but it lacks one the isomers that provigil has which attribute to diffrent stimulation
it's like comparing dexedrine and adderall to eachother, dexedrine is dextroamphetamine only, adderall is dextroamphamine and levoamphetamine, the levoamphetamine is more body stimulation, and causes more release of NE, so adderall is more likely to get you out of the bed in the mornings, dexedrine is more sutle and smoother stimulation
it's the same thing with provigil and nuvigil.....nuvigil only has one isomer

Hi Jade,
Regular stimulants such as dexedrine destabilize me. I feel very good, then quickly (very quickly), I become dysphoric, so much so that any benefits are outweighed by the crash. All delivery systems--well, I think I metabolize amphetamine quickly. Something like vyvanse lasts maybe four hours at best. A transdermal dexedrine would be fabulous. Transdermal ritalin is pretty good but awfully rough on my system.
Well, I'm feeling much better, and the nuvigil is helping the way I wanted. At the end of the night, I do feel a little dysphoria (unfortunately that's the place my mood goes); however, the mood is mild enough that I can push through it.
Thanks for your response. How did you psych consultation go?

Hi rj,
That's interesting. I don't really understand what an isomer is, but it makes sense that the lack of one, despite what a doctor might say, would feel different.
I'm liking the nuvigil now, which is good, because I can't tolerate straight up stimulants.
Best regards

I guess I have a love/hate relationship with Ritalin. I love that it clears my mind, energizes me, and allows me to focus. However I dislike the crash when it wears off, and I hate that I crave it at times just to feel "normal".

Always nice when a med trial goes the way you hoped it would.>
> Thanks for your response. How did you psych consultation go?Well thank you for asking. I told pdoc how I was feeling and asked about Lamictal. I also asked him what his diagnosis for me was and he said MDD. He upped my Ritalin from 60mg day to 90mg, and increased my klonopin from .5mg per day to .5mg 3x day. He said we'd talk about Lamictal the next time I come. I was too chicken to bring up the Nardil. Not sure about that yet anyway.
I have the feeling its gonna be a long process getting him to consider other meds. But I'm going to be much better prepared next time from what I've collected here.
Thanks,
Jade
