The doctor added 300mg of lithium to augment venlafaxine and remeron (mainly for anxiety).
My anxiety is virtually gone and I haven't slept better in years.
I went from waking up 20-30 times a night, to sleeping 7-8 hours waking up once or twice.
Don't discount this medication for depression / anxiety. It feels a bit heavy at first, but in a week or so, you adjust. Otherwise zero side effects.

I am 6'2" and 125 pounds. I haven't been able to gain a pound in more than 10 years. I take 7.5mg of remeron. I wish I got the weight gain side effect :)
I should add, that I also take folic acid (100mcg), vitamin D (200 IU), DHA (400mg), and some green tea / cocoa / coffee (which could be considered functional).

To answer your question more specifically....
Since starting 300mg of lithium, my sleep cycles have improves (actually getting tired around 9pm vs lying down while wide awake). My energy levels have actually improved too.
I have reduced sensitivity to light and sound (a big issue for me).
My depression is better in the sense that I feel a better internal / external balance. I feel a shorter recovery time from a stressful day. As such, I need less coffee etc. to get going in the morning.
What is happening around me seems a bit more interesting. I often get lost in my thoughts and become unresponsive to what is happening around me. The lithium seems to slow the hyperthinking and makes me more aware of what is happening around me.
So, I am getting less caught up in my head / thoughts.
