New Depression Research Article

I just read an article about a discovery of a brain protein that is elevated in the brain's of depressed people. I thought I would share. Has anyone else come across any new research findings or new drugs on the horizon?

I am guarded in my enthusiasm for studies that uncover associations without elucidating the mechanisms or chronology of cause and effect. It may be that elevated FGF9 is the result of elevations in brain inflammatory processes rather than its cause. While FGF9 may indeed be the key to treating depression, I think we need to see what the normal role of this protein is in the body and see clinical results before pharmaceutical companies dedicate all of their resources to developing drugs that inhibit FGF9 activity.

I agree with you. I gave up hope for a cure a long time ago, but I still like to read about research.

I didn't mean that you should give up on the idea that there will be a cure someday.

I certainly didn't mean that you should give up on the hope that you will find a treatment that allows you to feel better and build a healthy life, even though this might not technically be a "cure". In my way of thinking, a life-long remission might as well be a cure.

I am very glad you posted what you found. I haven't had much luck researching these things myself. Maybe you will. If I do get well, I think it will be because of what someone else writes here.

I am currently looking at resveratrol, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), and deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS).
