I watched a very interesting video about dopaminergic drugs against depression on youtube where a professor talked about pramipexole which he used for many patients which were treatment resistant so far.
I am interesting in trying this. He also said pramipexole is neuroprotective and can also make the dopamine receptors more sensitive or something like that.Has anyone tried pramipexole?
What concerns me a bit is the side effects.
It has side effects which are different than stimulants like sudden onset of sleepiness which can be dangerous when you're driving.

Over the years there have been a few people here that tried it. I have tried it. Side effects were intense, benefits either non-existent or slight, and this med can make someone much more depressed as well. Hit or miss, flip a coin, on paper it looks pretty good but in real life anecdotally it doesn't appear very good.
I do feel most depressions are in the DA and NE circuitry, not serotonin, and that the eventual improvement of symptoms will come from manipulating those in some way or another. I wish Ritalin was prescribed more because it would probably help a lot with half of the people here. Medical marijuana too. People seem to stay sick on the substances pushed by establishment folks, but find improvement on substances wrongly shunned by those same establishment types.
Ritalin acts much better as a DA agonist than does pramipexole, if antidepression is the desired goal. It usually needs to be combined with something else to synergize with and tame it down also.

well i am someone who went "off label" for many years, long time ago.. and it didnt bring any success.
i tried pramipexole. it was good for reducing sweating, but thats it.
and i think there was one really big study about its neuroprotectie effect, and it showed it isnt neuroprotective at all.

I was on mirapex several years ago. One good side effect is it improves sexual dysfunction and libido. Too bad it wasn't more tolerable. Seemed to make me more sociable but at a price of feeling ill. Powerful for boosting dopamine, including the less desirable D3, which can cause destabilisation. Gave me a short temper. I recall nausea was the main side effect that I could not bear. After about a month I quit.
I got a new psychiatrist after I moved and told him about it. He later wrote me a letter of thanks after he successfully tried it on some treatment resistant patients with success.

Hello,
this sounds discouraging. The youtube video from this professor made pramipexole look like a really good drug to try out against depression.I wonder how do ritalin and pramipexole differ?
does ritalin not hit all dopamine receptors?i take ritalin and it doesn't really do that much for depression.

I think ritalin is good for antidepressant induced fatigue. Can help improve motivation if i recall.

I tried pramipexole but couldn't get past the nausea as a side effect. I think I could have gotten past it if I had taken it more slowly and gradually increased the dose. But I was impatient.
