zyprexa causing me want to sleep

Posted by rjlockhart37 on August 1, 2015, at 23:56:52

the good thing: my medcines are starting to work, but now the zyprexa has full effect but it has a huge feeling to sleep during the day, thats what happened when i took it in 2010 at 20mg for the first time.......after time went by it seemed my medcines lost their effect......so now, im back to where i was and i need to maybe take half of it on some nights when i have to do important things the next day and not risk it's sedation

even the nuvigil, it stimulates but the zyprexa puts me in a sleep state for a long time.....even after i wake up.....

maybe half, or down to 15mg

I have the same problem at 20mg. I take that most days. But once a week or so I take a little less. Just cut the pill in 3 and only take 2. That seems to work. If I don't take the whole 20 most of the time it does not work. Dividing it up into 3 doses durning the day seems to help too. Its more effective and less side effects.

Are you happy with the way you are feeling?

If not, what symptoms remain untreated?

yea zyprexa relieves some things that bother me but i've been on it so long that my body adapted to it, and if discontinue it, i already did for a short period of time, i got more energy and focus, but also after about 3 days none of it, i started having alterations, anxiety, mild panic attack, like my brain adapted to it, and if it's gone it will into a tizzy....

but i also realized when i take it, i don't have have anxiety in the morning, when i was taking xanax at night, it would put me to sleep but i would wake up with anxiety, there's a drug called i think Halcion, it gets to sleep but when it wears off it causes anxiety, and the drug company said it would cause wakefulness the next morning, i've read tons of horror stories about halcion......

but when the zyprexa takes effect, it suppresses the anxiety, but also akes things move slow.....

hopefully learn more about and other, then maybe decrease or switch

thanks scott......

For the most part I'm happy with it. I must say, after all my failed attempts with other APs I very happy to have zyprexa. The odd thing is it seems to work better some times and not as good other times. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the amount of alcohol I drink some days and not others. Or as dad says could be my cycles. Some times it knocks me out some times I don't sleep much at all. Appatite fluctuates too. For the most part at 20mg the voices are not that bad or at all, that usually is worse when I take less than the whole dose. Racing thoughts is not bad. Anxiety is ok. The thing I don't understand is why I still need 20mg and not the 10mg I used to use before taking the abilify for 6 months. At 15mg I hear more voices, and can't tell if real or not. One problem I have is not liking to leave the house. I get anxious about it and some times just lazy. One thing the zyprexa is deffinity doing is keeping my head in reality. When off it I have an out of body experience where I just don't understand what is going on. Sort of like I'm frozen in time and really don't understand what is going on. Lately the zyprexa seems to be not as strong, but I'm drinking more too than I was a week ago when it was working better. I'm not sure if the alcohol is canceling out the zyprexa or if I'm drinking more because the zyprexa is not working as well. I also thought that fresh z was more effective but that doesn't seem the case anymore. My thoughts are more analytical-logical on 20mg. I think clearly. Know what I'm doing. Work better. On the lower doses I'm much more emotional and less rational. I feel more like myself on z, more normal. Off it I'm another person, a totaly diferent personality. On z I feel more like i did befor I needed meds and off it I just crazy. Also off z I have a tendancy to go to other drugs. The z also gives me an appatite, I can't eat when off it for a couple days. It also makes it possible to sleep, something else that I can't do off it. Literaly don't sleep for days. The z also gives a warm cozy feel, calms me down, makes me less speedy and on high alert. I asume thats the PTSD. All around its the perfect drug. My sugars are fine, TG fine, doc says I'm healthy.

I think there is something wrong with the latest batch of 20mg olanzapine. Its not as effective as the last. Infact it seems to be half strength. I'm drinking twice or more as before and I got a real strong craving for pot a couple weeks ago. Also I took 2/3 of a 20mg from the last batch, and it was much more effective. I slept and didn't drink nearly as much as I have for the past 2 weeks. Should I call the pharmacy and return them? What is going on here???!

With generic drugs, pharmacies (wholesalers) buy whichever drug is cheapest that day. You may be using olanzapine manufactured by different drug companies. You can request that your pharmacy only use a particular generic company once you determine which one works best for you. The pharmacy might have a record of which generics have been used in filling each of your prescriptions in the past.

I've been sticking with Teva for atleast a year. So thats not it. I just had an ordeal with the pharmacy. Telling them the pills were weak. Then later calling and canceling the order for more. Seems like they are working better now. I don't get it. Is it posible for the doc to tell the pharmacy to put less medicine in a pill, and not tell the patient? This has been my fear for quite a while now. Ever since I heard on the news that docs can wright for a placibo. I just don't understand why I'm taking twice the dose I used to and only getting the same effect or less. What is going on here? But the thing is that some times the pills knock me out and other nothing at all I don't sleep. Plus I've been taking the new bottle of z for the last 3 weeks and not much effect, but then I take one of the older ones and it knocks me out for a day. Oddly enough though my voices are not bad at all. But anxiety is up, drinking more and just feeling bad. What is going on here?

My first reaction is to suggest taking the same amount of drug every day instead of varying the dosage. Allow your system to stabilize and acclimate to one dosage. Perhaps the side effects will mitigate. I know that with antidepressants, constantly "pulsing" the drug can lead to treatment resistance. This might not apply to antipsychotics, but I still favor the idea of establishing homeostasis.

I don't think there is an issue with consistency in the product or manipulation of your prescription by the pharmacist. Your illness might be "talking" a little bit here. I know you are confused. I would be, too.

Why would they say that on the news, that docs can wright for a placibo? If they can do that, couldn't they change the dose on you and call it 20mg? I really am worried about this because right when I saw that on the news, my zyprexa stoped working. This was 7 years ago. I thought the doc wanted to see me on abilify only and wrote for a placibo zyprexa. Isn't that possible?

With compounding pharmacys why not? Makes me wonder why I suddenly need twice the dose ever since then. I hate to think abilify fucked up my head.. Especially for 7 years and going.

------

I have not been pulsating the drug much. Maybe 7mg less every week and then I make up for it with extra 5mg 2 days later because its not working again. But I do that because I get so tired some times.

Oddly enought the olanzapine is working again. So I cancled the order for more.

Anyways I'm rambling sorry... I've been afraid to say these things for some time now. Needed to get it out.

Thanks for listening. And if you could answer the question on fulse dosing I would be greatfull.

Its perfectly normal.

If the benefits outweigh the drawbacks then you can take the lowest dose that gives you an effect (maybe 10 mg).

For me i got used to the sedation so i am not as sedated anymore from Zyprexa.

What are you taking it for?
