Brintellix - how potent an SSRI and sexual sides?

Posted by mikezz on July 10, 2015, at 7:47:17

Hi,

I've been recently prescribed Brintellix after only partial response to Prozac.

Im wondering , is this a true SSRI with potency similar to zoloft for eg?

I have read it has weak 'occupancy', but not sure how that translates from a Pkenitc standpoint.

I don't want to be on a claytons / weak SSRI, so I'm just wondering.

Also, does anyone know how the sexual side effects compare to other SSRIs? I just don't want them to be worse, if it's the same or better, I can accept that.

Thanks!

I tried Brintellix one winter not long ago. I found it almost immediately effective. I also developed a voracious appetite - for food, that is. Found side effects similar to Prozac (sexual). As I increased the amount, I also realized my ttemper was getting shorter, and my impulsivity getting worse. When I decreased dosage, I lost AD benefit.

Sorry for the negative news. Also had nearly identical experience with viibryd. Discontinued each after 4-6 months.

Thanks! Can I ask what dose you increased to where you felt agitated?

I can't remember the ramp-up, exactly, but believe I felt it little at 30 and then definitely at 40. (Viibryd was a very clear and somewhat immediate pathway to episodes of real rage for me, though.) in the end, I stopped B because it felt too powerful for the dosing, as though if I could have titrated differently maybe I could have controlled these side effects. I knew it was a very new drug, and felt like there wasn't enough information out yet - for my purposes.

I do believe B gave me a voracious appetite. I don't know whether it actually *made* me eat more (maybe poor willpower?), which became a steady weight gain, or whether that was some other thing going on for me. Happened with Viibryd too.

Good luck to you!
