I have taken 80 mg for 20 years, and it is not just for OCD. There is no research on 80 mg, except for OCD, but that doesn't mean that hundreds of thousands of people don't take 80 mg for depression. If you can tolerate, and you need it, find an MD that will prescribe it. I once had an MD who said it was just a number, everyone's different, and he had patients over 100 mg. On the other hand, the most used augmentation is bupropion, and that works for some w/out having to increase the fluoxetine. It is among the most studied drugs in world history and if there was a problem with it at 80 mg., we'd know it. If your MD is not a psychopharmacologist, you need to find one. Don

Unfortunately I have become a lay expert on fluoxetine. One of the first people in U.S. to take it to 80, and my psycho-doc had some people at 100 and 120. His practice was in one of the clinical trials before it was approved by the FDA. So unless you have a liver disease, are 90 years old, or weigh under 90 lbs, there is no medical issue. The issue for me has been, always, it makes me sleepy and spacey. I've tried p.m., a.m. and splitting the dose, nothing worked. So I take 30 mg Adderall SR and 400 mg Bupropion, with the fluoxetine in the a.m. Is life perfect? No. But I can function. Best, Don
