Parnate start-up effects

I was on parnate for a while, but stopped nearly three years ago after feeling better for a prolonged period. Recently, I became depressed again and restarted parnate. I have not been on any anti-depressant in three years, just 600mg lithium for suicidal ideation.

I just started Saturday and I am feeling it in a way I never felt it before (I had been on other ADs when I started before). I n addition to the parnate-specific side-effects - poor sleep and postural hypotension - I just feel odd. I feel like my brain is just swimming in neurotransmitters. My mood is much improved, not because I feel good, but because it seems impossible to feel bad or to feel much of anything right now.

I remember when I first began using ADs in 2005 feeling something like this from lexapro for a couple of weeks. Since then, I've been on and off, but never for a prolonged period. So this is like when I first went on Ads. Just this rush of neurotransmitters into the brain. I'm sure this sensation will not last. But it made me realize how very strong these drugs are, without our mostly being aware of them.

I feel the way ex-smokers feel when they have a cigarette after years off of them - wow! I was putting THAT into my bloodstream every day!

I can definitely hear you having been psychotic on MAOI.

Yeah, I know that feeling too. It subsided. Are you feeling any better?
