What ever happened to Ritalin?

Posted by former poster on November 18, 2014, at 21:28:54

Seem to hear a lot about Adderall or dextroamhpetamine in the recent years. What's up with that? Wasn't Ritalin safer, less addictive?

they still use ritilin but not in it's brand name much anymore, the popular treatment is concerta....i know tons of people who take it and got prescibed it first choice.....

adderall is starting to be like the morning coffee in america....alot of people take adderall and it does vary well help with cognitive thinking, and getting things done fast, methylphenidate is more suttle and less speedy than amphetamine......

but yes, concerta is vary popular, espcially with young age kids....

I remember being on ritalin about a decade ago. I got a lot of work done but it made me "twitchy" and a bit more nerdy. Took it along with nardil for the daytime sleepiness side effect.

I think with Vyvanse on the market now, more people are getting amphetamines, sometimes first line. Technically, though, Ritalin (or Focalin...or whatever...) is still first line for some attention disorders and some forms of depression.

I receive more of an energizing effect from Focalin than I do from Ritalin (both forms of methylphenidate) or any of the amphetamines. None of these drugs produces a true antidepressant effect for me, but they do help give me the mental energy to better combat my illness, especially if used intermittently.

I don't think stimulants are supposed to produce an antidepressant effect. They are designed to give focus, increase concentration and stimulate the mind in such a manner that we crash planes into boats.

adderall is an DA vs. a DRI and its been about the only thing these last 5 years that has kept me above water.
However, they are designed in the amounts and duration to help more with focus...etc.

I think we're only so far looking at 2 examples of stimulants (and their stereoisometric formulations): regular amphetamine and methylphenidate. I think methamphetamine is a different story -- include therapeutic Desoxyn as well. It for me produces a mood-brightening effect that is present among activating the working guns of the brain. Especially at higher doses and depending on the sway of the wind, this effect can preside over the other effects, causing me to be content staring at a wall or simply doing rather than caring about the productivity of the activity or the result. "Regular" or dextro-amphetamine requires me to actually think to welcome the addition of the drug into my mindset.

They say methamphetamine produces weaker activity localized to the prefrontal cortex compared to dextroamphetamine, but it is still a hell of a stimulant. It is perhaps stronger on the dopaminergic side relative to adrenergic properties in comparison to dextroamphetamine and has a notable serotonergic properties that do not so much as characterize the pharmacological profile of dextroamphetamine.
Dextroamphetamine fights the battle eyes pierced to the enemy lines and minds set on the coreography. Methamphetamine does the same while kicking back with a beer at the same time.

Also the AD effect of Desoxyn when combined with MAOIs and TCAs is quiet, well.. AD-like. Perhaps I might actually get more done on Vyvanse or Focalin, but the anxiety relief with the Desoxyn combo is too important for me to find out. Or that's the addiction --> honesty.
