Opinions... Depakote or Trileptal?

No drama, just asking various opinions on which is a safer or more preferred med.

What are your thoughts? My doc likes both.

No such thing. There are too many variables to be considered, not the least of which is the quality of therapeutic response produced by each one.

I would use whichever drug makes you feel best. If both are equally effective and equally tolerable, I think Trileptal would be more helpful in your case. It reduces impulsivity. Although Depakote and Trileptal both carry a minute risk of agranulocytosis, Depakote has a greater liability of producing abnormal liver function (easily screened for using regular blood tests). However, Trileptal can produce hyponatremia (verifiable using blood tests).

Perhaps you should stay away from Psycho-Babble until you see your doctor next.

Google.

That's a good point.

I slightly preferred Depakote over tegretol. Tegretol may have been a bit better for me in terms of depression, but I felt more like myself on Depakote.

Depakote felt a bit more heavy though. Its great for anxiety.

I prefer Trileptal over Depakote, but...its your body. I take 1200mgs/day, plus 100mgs/Lamictal and 30/Abilify. Works nicely, in combination with Orthomolecular.
