I cannot stand the side effects. My insomnia has gotten 10x worse. Each dose sedates me for about 2 hours and then I am 5x more wired that before.
Not to mention I am more irritable. Here's a concept. How about a medication that actually....works?

That stinks. How frustrating!
Any idea what approach to take next?
I've had success with lyrica (in addition, I deal with fibromyalgia). A low dose might be effective?

Guanfacine?
I mention this drug only because the buspirone metabolite, 1-PP, might have produced a hyperadrenergic state in you via NE alpha-2 receptor antagonism. Like clonidine, guanfacine is an agonist at that receptor, and may act to reduce anxiety, increase cognitive attention (ADHD), and allow for better sleep. My impression is that guanfacine is less liable than clonidine to produce depression as a side effect. I can't be sure, though.
Prazosin?
A long shot, perhaps: Prazosin might possibly reduce adrenergic tone via NE alpha-1b receptor antagonism. Speaking for myself, I react very badly to NE alpha-2 antagonists (idazoxan, mirtazapine, lurasidone). I become very much more depressed. Prazosin has an antidepressant effect on me. Perhaps there is an association. Prasosin is known to effectively treat PTSD. It helps with disturbed sleep and nightmares, and can reduce depression and anxiety during the day.
