Options for possible bipolar

Posted by Scatterbrained on August 21, 2014, at 20:13:33

I have treatment reaistenr depression and it seems like it's probably a mild form of bipolar . I don't want to get into the whole history because it's too long and complicated . My question is what are my options in dealing with this illness? I've tried " therapeutic" doses of Lamictal and some of the other typical bipolar treatments and I just can't tolerate the cogntive side effects. They make me non functional. The only thing I can think of is to just remain on low doses of these medications and hope that it's enough because if this is bipolar it is a very mild form it seems. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Greatly appreciated.

What exactly are you seeking, are you interested in taking a anti depressant or do you plan to just stick with a mood stablizer alone.

If so silly as it sounds there are a LOT of studies that show higher dose klonopin is actualy a potent mood stablizer.

Depression and cognition are the main problems. The thought is the reason I'm refractory is that it's a product of bipolar, I just need a treatment I can tolerate. Benzos impair me even at low doses

Scatterbrained,

Which medications, if any, have you found to be beneficial as far as the treatment of your illness is concerned? I'm guessing that nothing has probably helped you in the long run, but have any medications helped you in the short run? Are there any medications that have worsened your symptoms? Which antidepressants and mood stabilizers have you yet to try?

I know, its alternative or whatever. I do it with meds for my bipolar I and I'm doing surprisingly well. I'm prone to EPS and such and I can take Abilify AND Risperdal (when needed) and not get twitches, dysphoria, or noticeable cognitive impairment.

If you have milder issues, then maybe a basic OM protocol could help you tolerate a therapeutic dose of something, say Lamictal or Symbyax.

Just a thought.
