is there really much difference between these drugs as Ativan seems to last 6 hours and klonopin 8...klonopin long half life seems meaningless as it wears off in 8 hours anyway

I dunno. I think there's a dosage difference, with Klonopin being somewhat more potent than Ativan. I imagine that if you took it all the time, Klonopin would be easier, to avoid anxiety and all that between doses.
Klonopin apparently causes depression in a lot of people. I haven't heard the same for Ativan, but I do think any BZD drug can sometimes cause/worsen depression, so maybe that's not a huge issue, either.

Klonopin depressed me horribly and only lasted a day and felt suicidal and wasn't. Took a xanax per p doc at the time and feeling went away. I liked ativan. Phillipa
