I've been on Nardil (repeat) for over a year now. I cut my dose from 105mg to 60mg. It's working much better.
The old formula had acacia as an "inactive ingredient". I've looked everywhere and cannot find a purpose for putting acacia in as an "inactive" ingredient.
I did search acacia and MAOI and found together they increase serotonin. So I wonder if the founder of Nardil intended that.
Many years ago I would get a mild manic feeling when taking Nardil.
Anyway has anyone ever tried dosing with acacia to see if there is a benefit. I plan on going to Vitamin World and getting a pound take @ 1mg acacia with my Nardil. But if anyone has input please respond........Thanks

Kirkglen,
The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients had this to say about acacia: "Acacia is mainly used in oral and topical pharmaceutical formulations as a suspending and emulsifying agent, often in combination with tragacanth. It is also used in the preparation of pastilles and lozenges, as a tablet binder, although if used incautiously it can produce tablets with a prolonged disintegration time."
I wonder if the acacia in the old Nardil formulation might have played a role in making the medication more effective (as least in comparison to the new formulation) by slowing the breakdown of the tablets. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case, but I think it's possible.
At any rate, I wish you luck with taking acacia with your Nardil, if you end up doing that.
