Hi, I finally seem to be on the right dosage of Adderall, I take 20 mg IR twice a day. Each dose lasts about 4 hours, and it works great, except my evenings are terrible. I asked my pdoc about a third dose to cover my evenings but he said no because it would interrupt my sleep. I am hesitant to take the xr because this ir is working great, but I don't know what to do about my evenings because as a mom, my day certainly doesn't end at 4.

Hi,How about taking an XR in the morning and when it wears off taking the IR version. Just a thought.

Your best bet is to go with the XR version, which will last 10-12 hours. You might have to play with the dose to get it right again, but it will be just as effective as your IR.

I third IR dose doesn't sound unreasonable. If it messes with your sleep, you can adjust the dosing schedule, take less in the evening, or go back to twice a day.
The XR generally lasts as long as 2 IR's, as that's what it's made of anyway -- basically. 9-12 hours is a fair generalization. You could try the XR and see what it does for you.. then work from there about adding an IR if you need one later.
Vyvanse is pure d-amphetamine which makes up about 3/4 the composition of Adderall, and tends to last longer than Adderall XR.

I used to take XR+IR...30xr, then a 10 mgs tablet in the afternoon. Worked nicely, really.Vyvanse, I hear, works longer, smoother, etc.

My 13 year old grandson take Adderall 20 mgs ER and then after school a bump dose of 10 mgs of Ritalin and this works great for him and for me because I watch him daily after school so I see when he has taken it or not taken it, he is like two totally different people. You may need more then 10 mgs of Ritalin for the late afternoon dose though. He takes it at 3 in the afternoon and by 8 he is winded down for the evening.
