Mini Pill for depression?

Posted by brynb on May 6, 2014, at 21:10:56

hi all-

i may have brought this up before, but i don't remember any feedback.

my gyno put me on the "mini pill" which, she claims, keeps your hormones at a consistent level and for some women is "the happy pill."

after one month on it, i think it is having the opposite effect on me. it's not a happy pill--feels like the opposite. how long should i wait?

any suggestions or feedback?

Hi brynb,

I don't know this mini pill. I use a transdermal called miniville (sp). Helps me with sustaining sleep. Had hoped for depression remission. Nope. Does this pill contain progesterone? Women's hormones can be difficult to balance by different supplements. I'd be wary of a happy pill. I've lived long enough to distrust happy. Remission of symptoms sounds good to me.

Do you have confidence in your gyno? Maybe a different ratio? Let's hear what someone with experience has to say.

Haven't seen you for awhile.

Hi Beckett =).

How are you? Things have been pretty good so I've been forcing myself to go out, do things, socialize, etc. I was doing so well, in failed to recognized the "mini" major depressive episode I've been in the past several weeks. I didn't intellectualize it or even feel emotion; i just slept and slept and lacked the insight to realize "exhausted and can't move from bed=depressed as heck." I was doing pretty well for a while and realized my depression started up again on the on start of the pill, so I'm going to call my gyno.

I know her a long time and I trust her, but maybe said "happy pill" is good for those with Dysthymia or PMDD. Oh, apparently, this pill has NO hormones, it just regulates you body's own hormones so they don't fluctuate.

Thanks for weighing in! Hope all's well.
