Still doing good!

Posted by Sheilac on April 18, 2014, at 18:15:11

Had to dose down from 120mg Geodon (couldn't stay awake) to 80mg, along with 2-3mg a day of Klonopin and 150mg of Trileptal to fall asleep.

Interesting test recently, I had to go on a course of steroids for bronchitis and no hypomania! This is the first time I haven't experienced hypomania from steroids. Geodon is working at keeping me even and helping my depression.

That is such good news. Don't understand how trileptal makes you sleep though. Took 150mg myself years ago and didn't notice a thing. Took it for a few months at least. Geodon I can understand. Phillipa

What advantages does the low dose of Trileptal offer, and surely you take it everyday for a possible weak mood stabilization effect? Could it be placebo?

I'm glad you're doing well!!

No, no placebo effect. I've actually bumped up to the 300mg long acting version of Trileptal called Oxtellar XR. About 30 minutes after taking it, it knocks me out! I get great sleep.

It was either that (which does help me during the day as well) or low dose Seroquel for sleep. I opted for the Oxtellar XR.

I can get by on low doses. And the Oxtellar XR does helped along with Geodon for mood stabilization without making me a zombie.

I've recently started taking my Oxtellar XR at dinner time along with my Geodon. I had to drop back down to 150mg extended release. I've tried everything from 300mg up to 900mg and it gives me terrible akathesia in the morning. I thought I was losing my mind. I was under the impression that more Trileptal (Oxtellar) would make me calmer - just the opposite, I was having such bad anxiety and near panic attacks I had to constantly take Klonopin. When my doc dropped me down to 150mg at dinner, I still sleep great, it helps with mood and no daytime akathesia. My doc explained that low dose Trileptal was like a stronger Klonopin and does indeed help with anxiety.

There's something weird with my liver, so low doses work well on me. Geodon has been the best mood stabilizer. Traditional mood stabilizers tend to make me crazier. Doesn't make sense. 125mg of Depakote almost made me suicidal. That's not anywhere near "therapeutic dose".

My doc tells me I'm on the low end of the BP spectrum.
