I just started Tegretol and already take lithium. What's it like being on two mood stabilizers?

I just started two mood stabilizers: lithium and lamictal. I think Lithium eliminates intrusive suicidal thoughts and lightens despair while lamictal seems to ameliorate fast fluctuations that tend towards what might be called (unproductively) borderline. Good luck. It seems to work for well with me--and I don't feel weighed down.

it makes you passive.....not really agitated, but not really feeling excited about things, it levelizes the moods to stable but only thing it tunes things out....
i take zyprexa 20mg and lamictal 400mg and that's what it does to me.......

Two mood stabilizers is more common than you might thing. The lithium + divalproex combination can be particularly effective in resistant cases.

I currently take:
topiramate 200mg. controlled-release
lamotrigine 200mg.both QAM
I have not had a "mood episode" as commented by people close to me since I have been on this regiment at this dose. I do not notice any physiological effects whatsoever. It works quite well, I highly suggest it.

Both lamictal and topomax raised my OCD to comical heights-I became afraid of my inner voice.

Just wanted to note that I read this, and I appreciate you sharing your response.
I appreciate personal response rather than generic terms. Short, but sweet and straight to the point.
I find it interesting that you decided to combine the two. I consider you and SLS to be the prestigious ones around here, but I don't get any credit lol. I'm an amateur.
This is the end of the thread.
