I figured I'd buy one script of valium in brand name as that is what I started on in 1972. Cost $90. I thought total cost come to find out $400 is the cost for a month. Would need to go through the doc saying I need brand for medicaire to cover. And two days later my husband gets a phone call saying I'm approved for brand name through Dec of this year. I never told the doc would try brand. So how did this good fortune happen? Any ideas? Thanks Phillipa

Do you think the pharmacist had to call ur dr and ask him/her to approve namebrand only rx, and ur dr approved over the phone? I know my dr can call in benzo rxs and ask for the brands I want.

Called the pdocs office today to make sure legitimate. The assistant said that he just went ahead and approved the name brand. That was awfully quick. As it's just an experiment to see if it works better. Do pharmacies notify docs now if you decide on your own to pay for brand and not the generic as shouldn't make a difference? P

Usually the pharmacy will let you decide which brand you want. If the insurance company does not like that they will talk to your doctor. Insist you try generic first. It's a matter of what your insurance will cover. If you pay out of pocket pharmacy will give you what you want.

Zyprexa I asked for brand but had no idea medicaire who give me a month before authorization from pdoc which he did the next day. I am going back to generic though as think that brand isn't working like it did years ago for me. Strange isn't it? Phillipa

I think it is all about getting used to a particular brand or manufacturer.
