Tegretol instead of Trileptal is working great, thank goodness. Can you believe that?!
My doc suggested a few options to treat the underlying depression: Wellbutrin (which I'm afraid to take due to past manic inducement), Geodon or low dose Lamictal.
I'm too afraid of Wellbutrin. Geodon has been fine in the past, but I still always worry about the atrial fib issues associated with it.
Lamictal is awesome, but was never a good mood stabilizer for me. Great AD though.
For now, I'm happy with the Tegretol. Now I just have to decide which med to take to treat low grade depression. I'm leaning toward trying Lamictal. I'm thinking Lamictal might be safer than Geodon?

Try something new!
Rilutek works great for bipolar depression. So does Zonegran.

That's Zofran.
Seriously, try Zonegran. I was on it for a while and it helped with my mood-it facilitates monoamine release, which means it helps release dopamine, seratonin and norepenephrine in the brain.
Rilutek is a glutamate antagonist and has been studied in bipolar depression.
