Hey Eric, here's what i remember.
Effexor back in the day there were TONS of posts about hell in getting off it. 'brain zaps' nausea, etc...
my personal experience was not good.
got terrible rapid cycle, extremes on both ends about every other day.craved alcohol, i hadn't drank that much and over the duration of taking the med since i was 19.
felt like i lived in a plastic sheath that coated me.

However, with that in mind two other important things:there were Lots of posts stating thats the only med that worked for them.
I personally am on Pristiq and have been for the last several years and its a metabolite of Effexor, it worked fantastic for me for a few years...
i don't know if i have break through depression or am just needed to augment on occasion...Best wishes.
