Anybody else on this? I started at 150mgs/day. I appreciate not having to do a gradual dosage titration. It is sedating (3 50mgs tabs at night), but it makes you sleep well.
I feel so much better. My diagnosis is bipolar I w/psychotic features, but I think I'm in the gray zone between mood disorders and psychosis with mood features, if that makes sense. Like...I'm prone to psychotic depression, and I've had psychotic mania.
Anyway, I feel much, much better now that I'm on Tofranil. I do wonder, though, if I can augment it. I was thinking either Remeron (hopefully 30 to start, to avoid additional weight gain and sedation...just a thought) or some kinda once daily Wellbutrin.
Stimulants are out (public health...not stimulants unless you have intense brain damage or something). I can't even get Provigil.
My remaining symptoms are pretty much just residual depression--a bit of apathy (Tofranil actually HELPED my apathy, which I appreciate), a bit of cognitive slowing, a teensy bit of residual auditory issues (not severe...I think its psychotic depression because I don't get stuck in the voices...), so...
...I read that Remeron decreases cortisol dramatically, and cortisol is part of psychotic depression for a lot of people. That's why the tried the abortion pill for psychotic depression. Also, it seemed like Tofranil+Remeron would be kind like old school version of Cali Rocketfuel, but Tofranil hits SO MANY RECEPTORS (sorry for the screaming caps) that I Just don't know...
...yes, I think its Bipolar I. I mean, to the extent that you can really say you HAVE any mental illness (I think they're at best constructs to guide treatment), then I have Bipolar I, with a strong tendency towards bouts of psychotic depression.
So...OK...Remeron? Wellbutrin? Something else (please, God, not an SRI)...?
This is the end of the thread.
