L-Dopa + Nardil?

Posted by BrainDamage on February 5, 2014, at 14:56:40

I'm interested in trying L-Dopa to counteract Nardil induced Sexual Dysfunction

Alternatively I could try Mucuna Pruriens, which is contains L-dopa along with other chemicals

I suspect that Nardil would interact quite badly with these chemicals

Anyone have an opinion?
Has anyone heard of L-Dopa being succsefully combined with Nardil?

BrainDamage,

I too suspect that taking l-dopa with Nardil would not be safe. It's my understanding that broad beans are on the list of foods not to eat while on an MAOI because they contain l-dopa, so I tend to think that it would be best to stay away from l-dopa-containing supplements if you're taking Nardil or another MAOI.

I also just did some searching and found this case report indicating that taking l-dopa with phenelzine can produce a dramatic increase in blood pressure:

Thanks Tomatheus
I read a similar report last night & it scared the crap out of me
Its damned annoying, because I'd love something cheap to boost my Libido
MUCUNA PRURIENS is supposed to be great for that
Its basically a less toxic form of L-dopa
It contains other Chemicals as well of course
Selleglines a no-no

Nardil is already pretty darn dopaminergic. All the MAOIs that are FDA approved for depression in the USA are quite potently dopaminergic.

Adding L-dopa to an MAOI sounds pretty crazy. Are you sure you are thinking clearly? Isnt there a drug/drug interaction between L-dopa and Nardil, anyway?

Sometimes, with these drugs, we have to just tolerate side effects.

I found the MAOI Parnate to have little sexual dysfunction side effect myself. I found Parnate to be about the only psych drug I ever took that significantly improved my sex drive and function. Wellbutrin some, testosterone does but thats not a psych med.

Side effects are highly individual, but perhaps switching to Parnate or EMSAM might alleviate sexual dysfunction but still give you the MAOI effect?

Its ok LostBoy

I should have made it very clear that I now understand its a bad idea with an MAOI!

It will cause a Hypertensive Crisis
Thats why I asked, because its not very easy to get clear answers through google searches
