before the atypicals became the "it" drugs for AD augmentation, buspirone was somewhat popular. I forget why, but adding buspirone to an AD (or, I would imagine, some atypicals) can result in an AD and anti-anxiety effect greater than either drug alone..sort of a 1+1=3 synergy in the magical land of psychopharmacology.

The stuff is pretty cheap, too, so that's a plus.

Buspirone was a bad drug for me. It caused suicidal ideation. But many people have found it useful for anxiety. It isn't supposed to do much for depression on its own, but combining it (15 mg) with 3 mg sustained-release melatonin may cause neurogenesis, which may reduce depression.

This case report describes a woman who was helped by just 5 mg of buspirone and 3 mg of melatonin.

Keep in mind, these are just my personal responses to the drug, but
i'm with Hugh. i didn't get to suicidal ideation, but if i would have stayed on it much longer i'm sure i would have. i felt my depression come on strong within a week of taking it. i did manage to stay on it a couple weeks (as folks kept telling me it only causes depression in like .5% of people) ya well, i'm that %.

However, the other folks that i've known that had tried it, really didn't see much relief from it.

but you need to follow your doc, and your 'gut'.
best wishes.
