in psychhospitals they treat adults like children
anyone have same experience?i am getting more and more sicker, and i am hospitalized in a belgian psychiatric ward.
not fun anymore :( i think they do this on purpose which make them evil i think.... when meds don't work or supposed to help.
I think many people suffer from negative symptoms and there isn't much that can help this at the moment, maybe in 10-20 years from now, they know something more....

yes. it is the down side of being considered to have diminished capacity / responsibility.
just like children it places us in danger of being abused. where caretakers make decisions to profit themselves instead of us - however well intentioned they may be.
things are better now than they used to be... but still hard, yeah. every time i'm admitted there is always a battle over the hours others think is appropriate for me to keep and lack of access to things i need (books etc). always takes at least a few days for stuff like that to be sorted out.
what sorts of things are hard for you?

> in psychhospitals they treat adults like children
> anyone have same experience?Yes. I have been committed to the same mental hospital in Norway twice in 1994, once in 1995 and once in 1998, and I have had voluntary stays there once in 1994, once in 2001 and the last time in 2004. In most of the stays they abused their power. I had horrible akathisia on perphenazine for three months in 1994, all the time I was on perphenazine, in three hospital stays with short intervalls. They even threatened me with forced medication if I didn't take it, even though they saw that I walked restlessly back and forth all day, so it was obvious for all that it was severe perphenazine-induced akathisia. It was one of my worst experiences in my whole life, and none of the staff cared. And the activities were just like in a kindergarten.

I have experienced worsening of my depression and insomnia several times when hospitalized.

Yes, I think psychopats are attracted to jobs in mental hospitals, because it is so easy to abuse the power.

Have you considered talking to a lawyer to get you out of this psychhospital and get another pdoc? Do you have rights in Belgium, so that you get a lawyer for free?
And have you been committed to this hosital or been on forced medication for five years? I hope you can get out of it soon.

I guess you are right, for mentally ill there aren't rights anywhere in the world. But haven't you tried to get out of the psychhospital?

i wish everyone that worked in a facility were required to do a one week stay 'as a patient' or could somehow be taught that EVERYONE deserves to keep their dignity regardless of their metal capacity!
its too bad we can't teach compassion...b2c

> its too bad we can't teach compassion...I agree 100 % with this. I have definitely experienced that it is not necessarily the educated workers who care the most for the patients in mental hospitals. Often it is the opposite.
