Constant munchies + meds...

Posted by Sheilac on October 26, 2013, at 19:35:14

Trileptal is awesome, Klonopin helps, but over the past year Geodon munchies have increased.

My doc thinks sleep is important, but 80mg of Geodon makes me hungry all the time. Is the Buspar increasing the Geodon hunger?

She's ok if I want to drop back to 40mg, and get sleep.

I'm just trying to figure out why a med that never made me hungry, now makes me ravenous all the time.

Should I split the doses? Is the Buspar pushing too much serotonin & munchies? Is the Buspar causing some hypomania, hence overeating?

She mentioned trying Latuda, but I don't want to change meds. I need to keep my regime. Plus, I've heard people get irritable on Latuda (which I can be) and weight gain.

I've heard metformin can help, but does it really stop the munchies?

I gained 40 pounds on buspar! I miss it but the weight was too much. I thought it was my remeron but surprisingly it turned out to be buspar.

Thanks! I was beginning to wonder. It very well could be the Buspar as I think in me it acts more like an antidepressant. I always gained weight with SSRIs. Anything that effects serotonin and I gain.

Who knows, but I appreciate your feedback.

Geodon has some AD action. Wiki says it has some reuptake inhibition properties, which is why its good for some mood disorders and depressive episodes in psychotic illness.

Anyway, add BuSpar to that and you have an uber-AD, kinda like adding BuSpar to a TCA or something (I have *very* rudimentary understanding of this, btw, so maybe that's what's going on?

Your BuSpar is making the AD action of Geodon more pronounced. There have been case reports of mania w/ Geodon when mixed with AD drugs. So...basically....you're taking an AD cocktail, hence activation, weight gain (common with AAPs, anyway), and all that other stuff.

Just some thoughts...

I think you could be right. When I tried Buspar without Geodon it was fine, but lately with Geodon, I have been more irritable. I think too much AD effect going on. Geodon is just fine on its own for me with its AD effect.
