adding neurontin to my cocktail? weight gain?

Posted by fiat500 on September 12, 2013, at 13:30:49

My psychiatrist thought it might be worth a shot to add a low dose of neurontin (100mg X 3 daily so a total of 300mg) to my cocktail to help with anxiety. He said sometimes it is effective and sometimes not. He mentioned that he does often see weight gain on neurontin. My question to those who have tried neurontin before is weight gain generally dose dependent with neurontin and is it more likely to cause weight gain than mirtazapine? Thank you.

gabapentin (generic neurontin) works well with my (ave) anxiety. when my anxiety is really severe it doesnt do much. most mostly it works very well.
about the weight gain.
i had a friend that took about 2-300 mg daily and she did gain about 15lbs? i think...
However, in the past i was averaging 1500-2100 and never seemed to notice weight gain.
i now take about 300-900 and still no weight gain.

so my guess is that effects some, not others.
too i do notice that it does tend to make me thirsty so i try to reach for water. so maybe that helps little too.

best wishes.

Gabapentin is not a big fat offender.

Keppra is much better for anxiety.

Eric,

Had to discontinue neurontin as it caused awful depression. Is keppra similar to neurontin?

Keppra is very different from Neurontin. However, both have similar indications.

Eric one more question. Is topamax good for depression or anxiety? I tried tegretol a while back and that caused depression as well. Lamictal is an anti depressant for me.

Topomax is better for anxiety. In some, it can cause depression.
