Geodon irritability!?

Posted by Sheilac on September 14, 2013, at 13:48:28

I've gone back to a baby dose (20mg) of Geodon at night. The next day I'm super irritable.

In turn, I have to take Trileptal & Klonopin to treat the terrible mood.

Geodon has some good aspects, but it seems agitating. Is this dose related? Or do I HAVE to go back to higher doses of Trileptal if I choose Geodon to treat my depression.

Geodon has increased my energy.

Lower dosages of Geodon can be more agitating than higher dosages. Seroquel, Saphris, and Latuda are supposed to have antidepressant effects in bipolar disorder. These three drugs are supposed to be less agitating than Geodon. Of course, everyone's neurophysiology is different, so there are no guarantees.

Which antidepressants have helped you the most? Have you tried Pristiq or Wellbutrin?

I think the dose of Geodon is too low. My doc is letting me experiment.

I'm going to try 80mg all at night and see if that works.

So far the 20mg I took in the morning made me a stimulant addict.

Wellbutrin makes me manic. Pritiq was ok, but I had to half the dose. It caused terrible gastro issues.

I have trouble sleeping with doses of Geodon above 60mg.

Last night I took 6mg of melatonin.

How to you balance the two?

Sleep is a must. In the old days I would have taken Seroquel (2 AAPs, ugh) or stayed with low dose Geodon and significantly raised daytime Trileptal.

Gotta get some sleep.

Then stay at the 80 mg Geodon dose, just make sure you get the Trileptal up to 1200 mg and STAY on it for the duration.

Trileptal 1200mg is awesome! I made it past 900 and didn't think I could get to 1200, but it works.

I see the neuro/psych on Friday and I think he'll agree.

I take 600 at lunch and 600 at dinner and it has really stabilized me.

I'm also still taking 80mg Geodon. Hopefully, this will be a combo the doc will agree to, I think he will.

Thanks for your input.
