Input on Geodon sleepiness + dosing please...

Posted by Sheilac on September 15, 2013, at 16:31:32

Geodon at night makes me sleep great, but hypomanic the next day. If I only take it at night, 1 cup of coffee in the morning will make me almost manic.

I've heard dosing it 2x a day would help. So I took 20mg this morning, and while it did keep me stable, and stopped the irritability (yea!) I consumed enough caffeine for everyone on this board! It was all I could do to stay awake today!

If I stick it out, will the daytime sleepiness wear off? Would a higher dose like 40mg in the morning be better?
Or would just taking it all at night - maybe a higher dose like 60mg or 80mg NOT cause the daytime hypomania?

Weird med. if I take it at night I need stabilizer during day.
If I take it 2x a day, I need very strong stimulants to stay awake during day.

Geodon seems like heavy artillery. Then again...ever tried small, even tiny, doses of Abilify? I read somewhere that Abilify can be dosed really, really low...like 1-2 mgs every 2nd-3rd day.

There's also the old school AP drugs to consider. Not ideal, I guess, but...they're cheap. And you'd be using tiny doses. Really, really small doses of Thorazine or Trilafon come to mind.

Good luck!

Yea, I gotta say I'm not crazy about all the fear that swirls around the use of taking APs. Who know what could happen long term.

Maybe low dose Abilify would be better than 60 or 80mg of Geodon. I don't know.

I'm not sure if my doc would even Rx old school APs.

I do feel that 20 years of taking SSRIs ruined my bladder. Just my opinion. Who knows what 20 years of Geodon could do.

That's why I'm worried.

I just want the irritability to go away.

I was thinking of talking to my regular MD or even visiting with my husband's neurologist.

I don't know.
