I disagree, the best antidepressant is the one with the least side effects that works.
In the 1960's, the Medical Research Council in the UK did a major study comparing Nardil to Tofranil, they foud that for endogenous/biological depression, Tofranil was significantly better. I think Nardil works better for anxious/neurotic/atypical depressions

I'm not sure any of them do. At least the anxious OCD type. Only med ever had success with was benzos. And I know everyone is tried of me saying this. Phillipa

phillipa you always mention how benzos worked for you....you were never afraid of their addiction..or do you think that is overblown

If being on a lower dose after what 43 years is an addiction then yes but as I see it. If you take them and don't abuse and need less what's the problem?

Been on both, and I've found that there's no other medication that makes me into "the person I was meant to be" than Parnate. I've tried everything from Prozac to ECT and I've never found a medication that works and keeps working and really gives me my life back when there was no life for me before. I kept going off of it because of side effects (or, because when I was IP they chose to take me off of it and do ECT instead - and were prepared to take me to court to have ECT over objection if I didn't agree) but I am not going off it again. Side effects are a small price to pay for the person I am now versus the person I was without it.
See, everyone is different in their response to medication.
