For the longest time, after my insurance stopped covering the brand name (and, I think, GSK stopped making it), I had to take the generic tranylcypromine from Par Pharmaceuticals. I did notice a slight difference but the drug was still effective.
Today I went to the pharmacy and found out that they'd received the order from Rising Pharmaceuticals but (knowing how I feel about the difference in efficacy of generic drugs) offered to let me research it and fill it partially with the remaining Par tablets.
I did some research right there on my BlackBerry, asked the pharmacist what the tablets looked like and she told me they say "Parnate" on them. It turns out that GSK is manufacturing Parnate for Rising Pharmaceuticals. This is good news, IMHO. Just wanted to let you all know.

So this new Parnate from Rising Pharmaceuticals (which looks just like the original US Parnate) is not being manufactured by USA's GSK but rather Canada's GSK. And I found this:
... which compares Canadian Parnate to US Parnate in a bioequivalence study. Keep in mind that the coefficient variation was substantial in both groups and that lower numbers do not necessarily mean reduced efficacy.
Just wanted to amend my posting, so you all didn't think this was the original USA Parnate being manufactured by Rising Pharmaceuticals.

Parnate in the US is manufactured by GSK and marketed by Covis, Rising made a deal last November to market a generic version of Covis' Parnate product, so you should be getting the same thing, but that's just a guess I don't have definitive information on the active ingredient of the generic product.
The market for Parnate in the US is so small, I don't know why they would even bother, they might see growth potential for Parnate or they suspect increasing imports from Canada and elsewhere by the patients.
This is the end of the thread.
