I've been doing well with a combo of Tramadol and Lexapro in the morning, plus TMS 3 x a week, and 4mg of Ativan at night.
Due to all the positive feedback I've heard about Minocycline here, I'd like to add it on as a safety net. Any suggestions if this is a good idea? And, if I do add it (I have an RX for 100 mg), when should I take it? Is it best taken with or without food and in the morning or the evening?
Thanks much in advance! Hope you're all well...

I took 3 doses for peri oral dermatitis last year and had to stop. Only antibiotic could not take the dizziness. The dermatologist took me off and gave me antibiotic lotions to apply instead. Phillipa

Hi Bryn,
I'm glad to hear you're doing so much better. Hope the minocycline fits in well with your current combo. I've seen some posts that express concern that it can induce mania, but I don't know of any cases of this. In a minocycline thread from last year, Scott recommended starting at a dose of 50 mg a day, and then trying 50 mg twice a day.

It's best to take it on an empty stomach.

If you're taking an antibiotic long-term, it could have a negative impact on your intestinal flora. It might be a good idea to take Florastor every day. Florastor is saccharomyces boulardii, which is a yeast-based probiotic that isn't killed by antibiotics.

Thanks, Hugh! I think I'm going to hold off on using Minocycline for now as I'm doing well. I remember Scott likening it to "aspirin for the brain," and the idea of it being good for overall mental health is appealing. My current regimen has been great, but I guess I'm just worried about relapse. I'm hoping the TMS in combo with my meds will give me the sustainability I had been been lacking. Thanks again for the info and I hope you're well.

Good point.
Fortunately, minocycline is less likely to impact the intestinal flora than most antibiotics. The same applies to doxycycline.
