This is a hard time of year for me. Inevitably, I get increase in anxiety, emotionality, insomnia and instability in spring.
Its hard to control. Something just switches on about the beginning of march.
Very intense.

Me too Link. I'm batsh*t crazy right now plus in a stressful situation. Moving short notice after 15 years here.
Thia was the time of year I was manic in 2004.
Biggest time of the year for suicides too.

Feel a bit hyperthemic, and in project mode.

Thanks for your input.
In the past few weeks I have gone from mildly depressed but stable to crazy-insane-emotionality and insomnia.
It really hit hard when the clocks went forward and it got even ligher at night.
I may try to do darkness therapy, see if it helps.

linkadge I am going through something similar, have felt pretty off for a couple weeks now, if it gets any worse I'll have to do a med adjustment but don't want to go there. What has helped you in the past during spring? herpills

I always wonder what is the reason for higher suicide rates in spring. You would think our bodies would be "happier" with more sunshine. And if it were just because of light and circadian adjustments, why not fall?
The first time I went into the hospital was may.
What i really have a hard time with is feeling more lonely anxiety with longer and warmer days. I cannot seem to reason with my head that I shoulnt feel this way! It's easier for me when I am down to have the weather match my feelings. When it is sunny, I think for me it is harder because I feel guilty for not being outside, claustrophobic, like the world is out there having fun. Or maybe it is because I feel more aware of how down I feel in the presense of a "happy sun"...? The days are already too long for me, and when it is lighter longer it makes it even harder. I even hate the cold and am more likely to go out when it is warmer, but I have found that the mood part of me suffers. Does anyone identify with this?
And where have you been link?

Definately identify with some of what you said.
First and foremost my anxiety kicks in with a bolt late feb early march.
and its full on now.
the key is to contain it (kinda too late) cuz then it exacerbates my depression/agitation. which makes things worse.but i become a hermit about may...not sure why. but i like how you said its harder because you feel guilty for not being outside, like the worls is out there having fun.
and i not sure if its claustrophobic? or the opposite? too open outside. i feel i need to just coverup on my rocker and watch marathon tv repeats...

I identify with a lot of this, Alchemy. My irritability has been at an all time high lately and I can't find a solution. The weather has been so awful and cold in NY that I have no desire to go outside, but when it warms up I become incredibly guilty-feeling if I don't take advantage of the sun and warmth. I don't get it.-b

>I have been having similar feelings. I've been isolating too much, and the weather is not helping. Looks like spring is coming late this year. I get depressed and I think "oh I wish it was a nice sunny day I bet I would feel better" then that day comes along and I feel weird and too anxious to go outside and I miss out.

I think it's because it's a time of rebirth... the energy that I feel I really believe is connected with the reawakening of the Earth. I cannot sleep without many meds in spring. In fall/winter I sleep just fine.
Probably also related to daylight hours?

i was musing about this too (again), today. i had a really bad week about a week and a half ago (was in the psych er after inadvertently taking too many pills trying to sleep/get out of my head); needless to say, it prompted a downward spiral, a close look at my current treatment (which clearly isn't working) and a quick unraveling.
now i'm going through a lot of change (med-induced and otherwise) and i've been really manic the past few days. it's kind of frightening as the "mania" and hypomania i feel has only been really obvious over the past few years. and i can't decide whether it's a really great thing that the weather is so nice here in ny, or just another thing that completely screws up my mood and stability...
