Doc agreed to let me try either Effexor or low dose Geodon for depression.
I was pretty chicken, but finally took 75mg of Effexor XR yesterday. After about 3-4 hours I started feeling sick - nauseous, smell and thought of food made me sick, then closer to bed time I had terrible anxiety (or akathesia maybe?) and took 3mg of Klonopin. What a terrible day! From just one dose?!
Today I still feel weird, but more calm and laid back.
I don't know if I could stick it out on Effexor. Is this typical?
I don't tolerate SSRIs, and lexapro caused excess urination and pain.
On the other hand, Geodon does give me some heart palps, but does work at 40mg.

Effexor is one of my least favorite antidepressants I've tried. I experienced some pretty intense anxiety on it. severe inner tension, too. Hair loss and the muscles in my face started to tense up on their own. Still, I stayed on it hoping there would be light at the end of the tunnell, only to end up with blank emotions and sexual dysfunction.
I've read Effexor is known for its side effects.

There is a old thread on effexor in the achieves. Started I think when it was the med of choice. Evidently the withdrawals per their threads are pretty intense and bad. Although I do know people in real life that just stopped it and were fine? Hope this helps Phillipa

I'm sure it's a good med, but I feel the way some people feel when they talk about withdrawing from Effexor. I'm not used to being sick and shaky when starting a med.
Of course that leaves me with heart palps on Geodon! Not sure Geodon is a good med either.
I don't know how serious 40mg of Geodon is and if it could cause serious heart problems. It works for depression and helps me sleep, but is it worth it?

With Effexor, much of the problems didn't start until I raised it to 150mgs. Its rare, but if you have any uncontrollable muscle movements that is different from any shakieness, I would stop Effexor right away.
And with Geodon and heart problems.. I'm not well read on things like that. If yoy talked to your psychiatrist about it already and are still nervous about it, getting a second opinion from a regular doctor would probably be helpful.

If you're going to stop it, I suggest you stop it NOW! RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!! Effexor withdrawal is terrifying, from what I've heard. I have a feeling that this drug may not be worth it.
This is the end of the thread.
